Reading
Directions: This section measures your ability to understand academic passages in English. You will read two passages and answer 10 questions about each. Most questions are worth one point. Some passages include vocabulary and rhetorical-purpose questions that ask you to identify the meaning or function of a word or idea in context. You will have 35 minutes total to read both passages and answer all 20 questions. You may move through the passage and questions in any order and change your answer before submitting it.

Listening
Directions: This section measures your ability to understand spoken academic English. You will listen to two campus conversations and three short lectures. You will have 36 minutes total for this section.

Speaking
Directions: This section measures your ability to speak about a variety of topics. For each task, read or listen to the prompt, use the preparation time to organize your thoughts, then speak your response out loud for the full response time. There is no microphone recording here — this is self-practice. After each response timer ends, a model high-scoring response and a self-rating rubric will appear so you can compare and improve.

Section 4 of 4
Writing
Directions: This section measures your ability to write in English in an academic setting. There are two tasks: an Integrated Writing task, where you read a passage, listen to a lecture that challenges it, and write a response; and a Writing for an Academic Discussion task, where you respond to a professor's discussion question. Real timers apply — 20 minutes for the integrated task and 10 minutes for the discussion task — with a live word counter.
