Dino Geometry Quest
Rex's Shape Expedition
Join Rex the T-Rex and his fossil-hunting friends as they explore the Geometry Valley β angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, and more!
π¦ Story Time: Deep in the Geometry Valley, Rex the T-Rex found strange ancient stones shaped like triangles, squares, and circles scattered across the canyon. To unlock the secret of the Lost Shape Temple, Rex must master every shape rule the old dinosaur scholars left behind. Will you help Rex measure angles, count sides, and solve the temple's puzzles? Let's begin the expedition!
1
Angles β The Claw Marks
𦴠What is an Angle?
An angle is formed when two rays meet at a point called the vertex . Angles are measured in degrees (Β°) .
Right = 90Β° | Acute < 90Β° | Obtuse: 90Β°β180Β° | Straight = 180Β°
Example: A square corner is always a right angle (90Β°) .
2
Triangles β Tri-ceratops Territory
π¦ Triangle Angle Sum
The three interior angles of any triangle always add up to 180Β° .
Equilateral = 3 equal sides | Isosceles = 2 equal sides | Scalene = 0 equal sides
Example: If two angles are 50Β° and 60Β°, the third angle = 180 β 50 β 60 = 70Β° .
3
Quadrilaterals β The Fossil Field
𦴠Four-Sided Shapes
A quadrilateral has 4 sides and its interior angles always sum to 360Β° .
Square: 4 equal sides + 4 right angles | Rectangle: opposite sides equal | Trapezoid: only 1 pair of parallel sides
Example: A rectangle with sides 8 and 5 β Perimeter = 2 Γ (8+5) = 26 .
4
Lines β The Stomping Trails
π¦ Parallel & Perpendicular
Parallel lines never meet, like train tracks. Perpendicular lines cross to form a 90Β° angle.
β₯ = perpendicular symbol | β = parallel symbol
Example: The two edges of a square corner are perpendicular.
5
Perimeter & Area β Digging Sites
𦴠Measuring the Dig Site
Perimeter = distance around a shape. Area = space inside a shape.
Rectangle Area = L Γ W | Triangle Area = Β½ Γ base Γ height | Square Area = side Γ side
Example: Triangle with base 8, height 5 β Area = Β½ Γ 8 Γ 5 = 20 .
6
Circles β The Egg Nest
π₯ Parts of a Circle
Radius : center to edge. Diameter : edge to edge through the center (2 Γ radius).
Diameter = Radius Γ 2
Example: Radius = 5 β Diameter = 5 Γ 2 = 10 .
7
Polygons & Symmetry β The Bone Map
π¦ Naming Shapes
Polygons are named by their number of sides. A shape has line symmetry if it can be folded into two matching halves.
5 sides = Pentagon | 6 sides = Hexagon | 8 sides = Octagon
Example: A stop sign has 8 sides β it's an octagon.
8
Coordinate Plane & Volume β Treasure Map
πΊοΈ Reading the Map
A point (x, y) is found by moving x spaces right and y spaces up from the origin (0,0). Volume of a box = L Γ W Γ H.
Volume of rectangular prism = length Γ width Γ height
Example: Box 3 Γ 2 Γ 4 β Volume = 24 cubic units.
